Whether you’re a florist, photographer, blogger or any other creative, branding is crucial. Branding is fundamental in the business world. They go hand in hand. Like 90’s Britney Spears and crop tops.
With how important it is, many businesses struggle with their branding. We were definitely one of them. Not to say we are perfect now…but man, have we come leaps and bounds! There was a time where our company had a different name, we weren’t exactly super consistent with our “look” and things just had to improve!
This is our guide for branding. A simple guide. This is by no means going to get you to verified Twitter status, or get that blue Instagram check next to your name overnight, but we definitely thing we can offer some insight into the branding world.
5 of Our Branding Secrets:
Learn To Say ‘No’ to those jobs you just have no passion for…
How many times have you as a business changed your look or wording of something to fit a client? How many times have you bent your own passions for those of others? Guys..this is hard in the beginning. Especially when you have a business where you are reliant on your income from your service. It’s so easy to say ‘yes’ to something you’re not super passionate about, or so not your style, but in the long run, it hurts more than it helps.
2. Show Your Face!
If there’s one thing that we have seen profit from, it is showing our faces here at Urban Flora. It can be a scary thing, especially if you are more introverted, but show your face slowly if you’re reluctant. Start with a more personal Instagram caption, or text story, repost something you can relate too. Whatever you can do to get your voice heard - do it. People want to see you! (As much as you think they don’t)!
3. Serve then Sell.
This Jenna Kutcher model is TOO GOOD not to share. If you have never heard of this business savvy queen, she is a guru in all things branding and business. She preaches the approach of serving…serving…and serving your client some more. Then you sell. People don’t just want a “Hi, I’m a florist, buy my flowers”. They want a two way street. A street where they feel cared for. Where they will turn when they don’t just need a service, but also a friend.
4. Visually build your brand.
As much as we might hate it, aesthetics matter. Build a color palette on Pinterest, or pin some inspiring images. Build everything around this palette or around a mood board. This helps keep everything you do cohesive. Just like we all know Loui Vuittons have red bottom heels.
This is another way to get personal with your clients. If you don’t want to show your face as much, this is a great alternative. Blog about your passions, your hobbies, your difficult times. People will fall in love with who you are and you’re story.
We hope these 5 tips can help you build a storytelling and sustainable brand. One that you can look to as a piece of yourself. A brand you are proud of and the rest of the world will know you by.
